Our Pleasance Border in JuneBellwether: the sheep that leads the flock

Back in 1983 you couldn’t find perennials to buy after about the first week of June. Gail believed we should be able to garden all summer, so she set about creating a nursery that would have perennials available from May through September. That nursery was born in 1984, and christened Bellwether Gardens.

Visit Our Display Gardens

We love to garden, and we like to grow plants before we sell them so we know their characteristics. We have planted gardens all around our 2 acre site to satisfy both of those desires. You are invited to tour our gardens to see full grown plants and get ideas for plant combinations and garden designs. We welcome you during business hours from May to September.

Perennials, Shrubs, Ornamental Trees

Originally Bellwether carried only perennials. Gail started designing perennial gardens for customers, and teaching Garden Design at Northwestern Michigan College. As her experience grew, Gail found herself wanting to add bigger plants for year-round structure and winter interest. Thus, we began stocking shrubs, small ornamental trees and dwarf conifers.

Garden Shop

For the convenience of our customers, we added to our little shop everything you need to make a perennial garden (and some things you don’t need, but that are fun!).
